How much guaifenesin should my doctor prescribe?
Patients begin at one half tablet (300 mg.) twice a day for one to two weeks. At the end of that time, depending on the changes patient and physician note, they decide whether to raise this dose to 600 mg. (full tablet) twice a day. About 30 percent of patients require a higher dosage than that. For a full explanation of the treatment, see the Treatment Instructions web page and the GG.
