A typical large gold coin (see image to the right) is an ounce of pure gold. Gold Jewlery is generally fairly thin and delicate and so even a fairly large amount of it doesn’t weigh very much. But with an ounce of gold being worth over $800 right now, you don’t need to have much gold for it to be worth trading in. Pure gold jewelry is fairly rare. Most gold jewlery consists of gold mixed with other elements. We buy your gold items based only on the gold content. Since 24 karat gold is pure gold, 12 karat is half gold, 18 karat is 3/4 gold, and so on. So if you had an ounce of 12 karat gold, we would pay you for 1/2 ounce of gold.
