How much fun is it playing the female Tony Soprano?
I had a blast doing this. I don’t think it’ll ever happen again, that I get to play a female mob boss, and get to boss Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro around. It had its advantages, definitely. How did you get into your character? I didn’t! It’s not like I can do research and just go and kill somebody, just to feel like I become the mob boss. I just watched “Married to the Mob” and other silly little movies. But then you just went to work and trusted everybody else to help you. What surprised you about Robert De Niro playing a comedic role? I’m happy to see him play comedic roles because I’ve always thought he’s very funny. Nobody else does! But he makes things a lot lighter and easier. What was like working across these two guys? It’s something that you just can’t even explain to people. They’re just so brilliant and so giving and make it a joy to go to work. I’ve worked with both of them before, and they are my mentors. They were my teachers, so it was nice to be in class again.
