A professional caterer could give you the most accurate estimates although it will depend on your guests typical dining habits as well. I know some people who will eat 3 plates at a buffet and others who barely eat 1/2 a plate. I agree that it would be good to consider using a professional instead of catering the wedding yourself (or with the help of family/friends). The food and drinks will need to be refreshed, kept warm, the serving dishes washed, everything cleaned up afterwards, etc. If your family and friends are busy doing all these tasks they won’t get to enjoy the wedding reception. If you insist on using homemade food at least consider hiring people to serve and clean up so that all your guests can enjoy the reception.
