NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville’s Second Harvest Food Bank received a surprise from Santa Claus Wednesday morning. Holiday World, a theme park located in Santa Claus, Indiana, donated more than 37,000 pounds of food to the Middle Tennessee food bank. Jaynee Day, spokesperson for Second Harvest, said the donation couldn’t have come at a better time. “More and more families are really struggling,” she said. “We heard from a family the other day, [they] called in needing food assistance, who recently lost their home and now, a family of six, [is] living in their car.” In the summer, donations to food banks typically drop. Day hopes Holiday World’s donation encourages others to donate to their local food banks and pantries. Holiday World collected the food from guests entering the theme park during their two month Feeding Families Food Drive. Second Harvest said the donation is one of the largest in the last six months. The food bank plans to turn the 37,000 pounds of food into 29,000 meals.
