How much food can a solar oven cook?
Most designs cook plenty for a small family. Multiple ovens, or larger ovens, can be built for larger families or groups. The quantity of food you can cook will depend on many variables. There are environmental variables that affect the power of the sun on any given day. There are differences due to types of food. Large amounts of quick-cooking food can cook in the same time as small amounts of slow-cooking food. The design of your oven will also affect the amount you can cook. Solar cookers that intercept more sunlight will cook more food. The Villager Oven, which Sun Catchers Project is proposing to donate to orphanages, schools and hospitals, is capable of cooking up to 1200 meals and day or 60 loaves of bread an hour on a full day of hot sunlight.
