How much faith should we have in our counter-terrorist services and the government departments who run them?
I think we should have a lot of faith. The only time things get into the news is when mistakes are made as for no evidence I seriously dispute that .The security services do not just pick names at random and decide to arrest them.Months of investigation would have been carried out before these raids. And it may be some of the evidence if made public would compromise further operations or jeopardize informants safety if this is the case, and judges often put informants at risk in investigations, the security services may offer no evidence to protect an informant.
Well, the problem is the way these things have been run over the last eight years. There was a dependence on information gathered from torture, which isn’t reliable. There were no trials, and there was no real evidence to show that those captured were involved with any criminal or terrorist activities. A lot of energy has been focused on people who are most likely innocent rather than those who should be caught. At least, this is true in the U.S., but we’ve unfortunately brought the British government along for the ride. I’m not sure how things will work out in the U.K., but I have hope that things will return to normal here in the U.S. If history is any indication, the U.K. will follow. Faith or no, many terrorist threats are actually caught by local law enforcement, and you’ll never hear about them on the news.
