How much exercise does a JRT need? And how active are they?
A. Baxter gets about an 1 hour to 1.5 hour of exercise a day. I work from home so my “coffee breaks” have now become “frisbee breaks” and I try and take him on a 3 mile walk in the woods 4-5 times a week with smaller walks in between. JRTs have boundless energy and will keep going long after you have tired out. If I miss taking Baxter on our long walks or doggy socials for a couple of days or longer because of inclement weather or other circumstances, I definitely notice a change in Baxter’s behavior. He becomes restless and is just looking for something to do. That is when these types of dogs can get themselves into trouble – because if they start to make up their own games – you usually end up with objects torn and shredded under our bed or worse!
