How much energy do i use when my computer is on standby mode compared to being off?
i am an electrical engineering major at usu at the moment id like to answer your question inside the computers power supply there is a small transformer or small section of a larger flyback transformer that supplies a standby voltage for your machine but infact it is a control voltage that is always in your computer for remote start up usb start up and power on usign the button on the front of your computer if you turn your computer completely off you will still always have that current in your mother board waiting to turn your computer on now that fact is this is about 10 watts on most new computers the difference between standby and just turning your computer off is a small amount of voltage that goes to an led to show your computers still on with is about .03 watts and on some older computers power for the ram but the simple truth is so small a difference it is not worth shutting your computer completely down unless your going to unplug it but that mite save you a total of 7 cents a
