How much energy can wind supply worldwide?
As of the end of 2007, there were over 94,000 megawatts of generating capacity operating worldwide, each megawatt of wind power serving between 250 to 300 homes on an average day. Globally, wind power generation increased more than fivefold between 2000 and 2007. It is estimated that the world’s winds could theoretically supply more than 15 times current world energy demand. The potential of wind to improve the quality of life in the world’s developing countries, where more than two billion people live with no electricity or prospect of utility service in the foreseeable future, is vast.
