How much domestic waste is produced in Nottinghamshire?
The residents of Nottinghamshire generate around 430,000 tonnes of domestic waste each year. The district and borough councils collect 310,000 tonnes from households and members of the public deliver an additional 120,000 tonnes to the 17 household waste recycling centres (rubbish tips) . Of this, 220,000 tonnes is disposed of in landfill sites and 60,000 tonnes is incinerated, with the energy used to heat Nottingham city centre buildings and provide electricity for the National Grid. A further 100,000 tonnes is recycled and 60,000 tonnes is composted.
