HOW MUCH DOES TREE-PLANTING CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL CO2 REDUCTION?
The current scientific consensus is that planting trees is not an effective form of substantively affecting global warming. Truth is, more carbon reduction can be accomplished by implementing biodiesel and other popular renewable fuel sources, and/or implementing energy-efficient habits at home, your office, and in your business travels, than from planting new trees (called “sequestration” by scientists). Tree-planting is good, and green, and laudable – but money that goes toward the continuing development of biodiesel and other critical climate-changing technologies does more good on a global scale than new trees.
