The following graphic, related to the same image coded with JPEG baseline and JPEG2000, shows that despite of using the same number of bits per pixel, the difference between the two standards is remarkable. For example, for 1.125 bpp, JPEG2000 performs better with a difference of 6 dB; this confirms the higher visual quality of the new standard.
