How much does the night-time economy contribute to the mess?
There are somewhere around 200 licensed premises in the town centre alone, including nightclubs and late bars. It’s estimated that as many as 20,000 people flood into Cheltenham at night, from all over the region. While the nightlife plays an important role in the local economy, it comes at a high price. Each morning the aftermath is clear to see in the form of fast-food packaging, greasy leftovers, promotional flyers, broken glass, vomit, urine and faeces in the town centre.
