How much does tattoo artist make?
It depends on the shop, artist, rate per hour, number of customers, etc. Lots of artists make 50 or more an hour– Some shops take half their wages (say its 150 an hour, the shop takes 75 each hour), other shops rent out the seats and the artists just pay their rent each month and keep the rest. If you are a talented tattoo artist who works hard to get clients and works a solid schedule each week, you can easily make very good money. If you are lazy, even if you’re great, you end up with NO money. So work hard! Many of my tattoo artist friends are MORE than financially comfortable! So stick to it! Keep taking drawing classes or painting classes, or any art class you can because all you can do is get better. Start making connections in the tattoo community so when you are ready to start an apprenticeship, you have some ideas of who to talk to!
