Unlike most private foundations which donate an average 5 percent of the fair market value of their portfolios, the Newman’s Own Foundation is committed to donating all its income to charity, after paying excise taxes and necessary administrative expenses. The Foundation is committed to keeping its managerial costs to less than 10 percent of its grant making, and over the first three years of its existence, these expenses have been less than 4 percent.
