How much does it snow in Fairbanks, Alaska?
According to Wikipedia, Fairbanks “averages around 67.4 inches (171 cm)” of snow per year. We usually see our first snowfall towards the end of September or the beginning of October. For the first couple of weeks, we just get light ‘dustings’ of snow, but by Halloween it’s usually on the ground to stay until spring. Oddly enough, there’s not much snowfall during our coldest month- January- because it’s literally too cold to snow (I’ve been told it’s because there’s not enough water vapor in the air.) Since I’ve lived here, I’ve seen the last snowfall come as late as April. In fact, it’s May 7th now and there’s still snow in shady places!
