If you’re worried about costs, check around to see if there are any low-cost spay and neuter programs in your area. The thing about it is that each veterinarian is different, plus the surgery ends up being more than just the cost of the spay itself. Most vets will charge an office visit fee to see the dog if it has never been there before. They will also require that the dog be up-to-date on certain shots- usually Rabies, Distemper and Bordatella are the big 3. Then there will be extra for pain medication when you take the dog home (and please don’t leave off this option- especially for a female dog. It is a very invasive surgery and can be more painful for females.) It can end up costing you 2-300 dollars.
