How much does it cost to manufacture a fairly simple consumer product?
Hard to say. It depends on what quality level you want to hit. If you make it as cheap as possible, in China, it might be buildable for $30 If you want it to last more than a week, and be really waterproof, you need a whole different set of parts and designs, and it could cost many $100’s. You might want to build a prototype– a “Roomba” like thing is a lot harder to get working than you might think. It’s hard to make something that can wander around outside and not get stuck on rocks and sidewalk borders. You also need to think of the legal angles– if this thing wanders off your property and causes a traffic accident you could be liable for $millions. Do you really want to get into this business?
