Around £150,000 was spent on maintaining the Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels in 2009-10. In addition, the Tyne & Wear Integrated Transport Authority is investing £500,000 in repairing the vertical lifts and refurbishing the lift shafts.
