It’s $10,000 a year at my school! Ridiculous!

The costs are highly variable; depending on the specific sorority and chapter.

For my sorority (which is an independent, multi-cultural one), each active member is responsible for both national and local dues. Our national dues are $150 per semester. Local dues are set by the chapter, but the annual limit for dues (both national and local combined) is $1,500.

We provide no housing scenario. Sororities with houses have higher fees, but it is comparable to what you would be paying in rent off-campus.

Although the fees for my sorority seem low, there are organizations out there that charge even less.

The financial commitments vary from campus to campus and from chapter to chapter. Each chapter is required to disclose its financial commitment to you. Costs vary depending on whether or not housing is provided, if you will be required to eat meals at the house, or live in the house during your membership period. Fees can range from $250 – $1500 or more per semester. More often than not, It is less expensive to live in sorority housing than in dormitories on campus.
