How much does it cost to get a book published?
If you are going through a bona fide, traditional publisher, the publisher pays the publication costs. It should not cost you anything for the editorial, printing or publisher’s promotional process (you may choose to do paid promotion/advertising yourself). However, if you are going to use a vanity publisher (also called an “author service”) then you will be expected to pay some charges and there is a concomitant loss of prestige. There are many author services/POD vanity publishers. They won’t call themselves “vanity” publishers. They will call themselves “self-publishers.” Suffice it to say, using their services has as much in common with self-publishing as a house cat does with a Siberian tiger. Many author services will charge your through the nose and make outlandish promises. Avoid them. If it seems even remotely good enough to be true, it definitely is.
