How Much Does It Cost to Build a Road?
Roads are easiest built in well drained sandy soils that have been void of trees for years, allowing for all vegetative matter to have long since been consumed by nature. This is usually not the case. Clearing, stump removal, excavation and removal of unsuitable material, subsurface drying and re-compaction, fill dirt hauled in and compacted, low lying area or creek crossings, and bridging may be, in part, or all associated with a road construction project. Each part of the project is calculated separately. Dry weather is a must in flat land, and nearing completion is aided by short hard rains to flush ditches and add moisture to dirt too dry to compact. Under good conditions a short 600 foot road could cost as little as $1200.
