How much does it cost to apply for an MMIC card?
The cost for applying for a card varies, from free or nominal to some areas that have been increasing the cost for them, almost in a punitive way. In some areas of California it’s been proposed that they double or triple the rates, and then community groups and Americans with Safe Access have sued to try to keep those increases from going in, because they can be considerable. This can be in the hundreds of dollars. I would say most of them are twenty-five, thirty, fifty dollars. I don’t believe there’s a waiting period in most areas, so as soon as you have the letter of recommendation from your physician, you can go to the health department and in most cases have it issued on the spot, like a driver’s license.
