How much does it cost to adopt a guinea pig?

Some pigs are free! some are 15-50 dollars. Guinea pigs are faily sotly, I would say monthly mine cost me about $40-$50, but I have 3! You have to remember bedding (NO WOOD OR SCENTED), food (PLAIN PELLETS! NO SEEDS OR COLORED PIECES) and hay (they should ALWAYS have Timothy hay!) the members of this site are from ages 10-40! If you get it from a pet store, then it will cost around 25 dollars. Getting one from a shelter will be around 35 or 40 dollars. Getting one from a breeder costs a lot, don’t get one from there unless you plan to enter it in contests. The supplies without the cage wont cost a lot either, depending on where you buy. It is a good idea to look at a few different stores to see which one has the best prices on supplies. Keeping guinea pigs is not very costly either, the most you’ll be spending is 20 dollars whenever you run out of hay. Other than hay the only other item you need to buy regularly is the seeds, which is about 10-15 dollars for a medium bag, depending on where you buy it.
petstores range around $20-40, depending on the guinea pig. I guess some shelters are free, but I’ve heard of more like $40 + for those. If you’re just looking for a pet, a breeder will probably sell you one for like five bucks, which I think is a good deal – you can get a young, healthy cavy with a known background and not be in the dark about what kind it is. Many breeders probably wouldn’t mind answering any questions about cavies you have, either. you can get a 32 oz. waterbottle at wal mart, and probably a food bowl too. if you order from KW you can get pretty much anything.
