You would not have agency fees, but you would still have court and attorney costs. You would still need a home study (you would pay an agency or the Department of Social Services for that, and they would scrutinize your health-physical and psychological, along with your home, finances, criminal record and the like). Most likely, you would also have to cover the biological mother’s cost for health care, lawyer fees and the like. It would be what is called a private adoption, not a closed adoption (in most states, the records are automically sealed and in the states where that is not done, it is up to the adoptee, when s/he is of age, to obtain the original records or not-not the adoptive and biological parents’ decision).
