i’ve been a figure skater for 8 years and once you get good enough you can go to competions, but you need to passed the first 6 or 7 levels then you can start on you freeskate and dances and skills and stuff like that.First of all you have to get the right skate, this is my last year i have to by skates but they cost like 800 but they are special made and my perants paid for them you can get skate that are like 250 or a little less maybe. but as you get in higher levels it cost more for the better skates and to get judges for the levels and you need to pay for the coach and the ice time too……over all it’s an expesive sport But it totally worth it . If i were you i would talk to your friends coach and ask her some questions about it .

You do not need customs skates. I just thought I’d mention that. It makes little difference in your performance. The best you really should do it get them heat molded for your comfort and ankles punched out if necessary. Also, you do not need to spend $300 on a dress. Try buying a plain dress and designing it yourself, or don’t get a million crystals on it. Cost really varies based on level, skill, ability, potential, commitment, parents willingness, salary, ect. Do your best to talk to a nearby coach about the expenses. Competitive skating is rather expensive and you should know for sure if you want to do it. I started skating last October. I bought a good pair of skates recommended by my coach $300 Lessons and rink time total for October – March was $538 But during that time I was able to complete the Adult program and complete begining spins and waltz jump. This winter I will start to learn jumps. Look to see if you area has “scholarships”. Pay for one or two sets of lessons and see if you like it. Use rink skates before investing in a pair that you will end up never using.

my lessons usually cost around 100$ but it might be less at other rinks, ask your local rink when the lessons start and for how much, they’d probably know.
