depends on what part of the U.S. Starting average pay is about $45,000.

It varies widely with base rates from $30-$50/hr. if you include differentials for working weekends, nights, inpatient setting vs outpatient setting (my hospital has that) you can make more than that. as an example, my base rate is about $47/hr but given that I work nights in an inpatient setting and I work every other weekend, and I get paid 40hours a week for only working 36, I actually make closer to $62/hr.. I’ve found that most hospitals don’t pay more more for having a BSN and if they do it’s not a whole lot more; having a BSN comes more into play if you want to take on more of a leadership role or go back to graduate school, things like that. Although, in the long term hospitals may start looking more highly on nurses who do have bachelor’s degrees, so it may be worth the extra investment.
