How much does a geothermal system cost to install?
Geothermal systems may be expensive to install, however, when considering operating cost along with installation costs over the life of the system, there are significant savings over any other heating and cooling system available. According to the EPA, “geothermal systems are the most efficient, environmentally clean, and cost effective space conditioning system available today.” Many factors affect the installation cost of a geothermal system. Lot size, soil conditions, and lot assets all affect installation prices. Deep or high flow wells, streams, and ponds are assets that can reduce price. Large lots without ledge (6’ deep) are good candidates for a horizontal closed loop. Small lots, or lots with ledge would likely be a vertical bore hole application which is more expensive than horizontal trenched installations.
