How much does a decent nightlife wardrobe run around Hangzhou, or maybe Shanghai? Also, are cologne and shoes expensive in China?
In Shanghai, clothing costs span the entire range from cheap to super expensive. Since it is such an international city, you can find boutiques representing the elite clothing designers which have correspondingly high prices. (Shanghai Tang has GORGEOUS clothing, but quite pricey). That said, though, you can still find an affordable wardrobe. Two Chinese stores that I recommend are Giordano and Jeans West. You can probably buy an entire outfit for about US $15 or less. Don’t be afraid to wander into places off the street. There are good buys all over the place. Also, bargain hard at clothing markets. In terms of shoes, that can be trickier. I don’t know the prices because I never really bothered looking during my three years living there. Simply stated, my feet were too big. While I have a normal size in the US (woman’s size 8), everything was too small for me there. Oh, also a good idea to go to a tailor. Great opportunity to have a wardrobe perfectly fitted to you!
