The good news is that because so many people are abandoning film these days, you may be able to pick one up on eBay or similar source for a very good price. It would be a separate topic to describe what to look for in a good enlarger, but briefly, it must be sturdy, the bellows must not have any light leaks, adjustments must be smooth, and you need a decent lens. The light source and condensor system of an enlarger is hard to evaluate. Go with a known brand name is probably the best advice there. You will need a timer, which can go anywhere from cheap to expensive and you’ll need some fairly accurate thermometers.
