How much do the great violinists get paid for a performance ?
Some one like Hilary Hahn can receive $50 000 for a 3 performance engagement with an orchestra. Mutter would receive the same and Perlman would get more. Perlman though usually takes a lot less. He has something in his contract that says a portion of his fee goes to charity. Artists – pianists, violinists, vocalists…. etc. have a floating artist fee depending on the venue and type of performance. An orchestral engagement – concerto demands a higher rate for established musicians. For me, my fee is the same for a concerto or a solo performance. However when i perform with my chamber duo I take a smaller fee. Now, lets say its is a concerto, orchestras have different budget levels they will spend on an artists. Lets say and orchestra has $500 000 budget for guest artists (this is a very small budget), they will invite as many guests artists as they can but with this budget it also includes travel, hotel and food for the artist.
