How much do sports and clubs help when applying to colleges?
Most colleges are looking for “well-rounded” applicants. They want people who work just as hard in the classroom as they do outside of it. Like what the guy before me said, it’s quality of extracurriculars that counts, not quantity. My school does GPA rankings, not academic averages, so I couldn’t tell you what your grades look like comparatively. Sports and clubs are very important to private schools- most applicants have similar grades and test scores, so the extras are what make you look different from other applicants. Besides, a good athlete with decent grades often looks just as good as a “geek” with stellar grades and nothing else. Leadership is also a must for any good university. Get as good of leadership as you can, varsity captains look really good too. Also, community service is a great thing to have…you can never have too much of that. Plus, all that stuff can get you great scholarships with which to pay that private school tuition. Good Luck!
