A reputable breeder will sell pet quality kittens starting around $600 and show quality kittens into the thousands. REPUTABLE breeder is the key word here – there’s LOTS of bad backyard breeders. And you do NOT want to screw around with a backyard breeder – especially when it comes to Persians. Persians are genetically predisposed to a disease called PKD – Polycystic Kidney Disease. Reputable breeders test their cats before breeding them so they’re able to breed this out of their cats. Bad breeders DON’T test their animals and will breed PKD+ cats, resulting in PKD+ kittens. PKD’s an early onset form of kidney disease so if you buy one of those kittens you can get up with the cat going into renal failure and dying as early as FOUR YEARS OLD.
