How much do CNG vehicles currently cost?
First problem is that in NJ right now you can’t get them. Believe me, we have tried. Even if you do manage, the cost is way too much. Some of these costs are easily made up for with lower cost of CNG fuel and modest tax breaks. However a lot has to be done to make the situation better. The biggest factor is in market scale. Once CNG vehicles can be counted in the hundreds of thousands or millions then the cost will be the same or lower than a comparable gasoline vehicle. Any mechanic who has experience with CNG vehicles will also tell you that one of their favorite things about natural gas is that it burns dramatically cleaner than gasoline. This is great for the environment however it is also great for your car’s engine. Cleaner burning fuel makes for less wear and tear on the vehicle and much lower maintenance costs. Right now the only new CNG passenger car made by a manufacturer in the US is the Honda Civic GX. It was rated by the EPA as being the cleanest production vehicle in the
