How much do Belgian Shepherds shed?
The Malinois, Groenendael, and Tervuren shed quite heavily — yes, even the shorthaired Malinois! All of these dogs shed some hairs here and there throughout the year, but most of their shedding occurs twice a year, for three weeks in the spring as their winter coat switches over to a cooler summer coat, and three weeks in the fall as their summer coat switches over to a thicker winter coat. During this time, their shedding is profuse and you should brush them every day to pull out the dead hair so less of it ends up on your floor and furniture. The tousled, wiry-like coat of the Laekenois sheds much less, but the trade-off is that it requires trimming or clipping several times a year.
