How much did you raise throught the appeal to save the Turners The Blue Rigi?
In January 2006 we launched a public appeal to raise money to help Tate acquire JMW Turner’s superb late watercolour The Blue Rigi. The response from the public was extraordinary; more than 562,000 was raised from Art Fund members, Tate members and members of the public in just five weeks. Over 73,000 was raised from our ‘buy a brushstroke’ website, most of it from the general public. The campaign caught the imagination of many people, none more than young Matthew Hughes from Nottingamshire, who donated 9.20 – the entire contents of his piggybank – and was given Art Fund membership as a thank you.
