How much credit is available through Service-Learning?
You may earn up to 14 credits during a calendar school year (Summer-Spring). However, no more than 14 credits can be earned toward a degree over two years. The amount of credit you earn is based on the number of hours of service you provide. The normal guideline is 30 hours of service equals one credit. For example, siz hours of work per week in a ten-week term equals 2 credits of Service-Learning, 60/30=2. In addition, you have the option of registering for the one credit Service-Learning seminar, if you could use an additional transferable elective credit. Either way, you will be required to do the same amount of work, including the learning objectives, reading reports, guided reflection, self-evaluation and site visit by your faculty coordinator.
