How much CPU resource is required for the mainframe components of the Optimizer?
As you know, we have to build our database every day. So, at the point in the day when you have all of your SMF, RMF, and CRR data, you need to run our Extract process. At one customer, who has about 9.5 terabytes, the Extract process used about 20 minutes elapsed time and about 10 minutes of CPU time. So for a customer of simply HUGE size, it was about 10 minutes a day of CPU time. Then, before you run the Performance or Management Class Analyzer, you need to do what’s called a PREP run, which goes into the Optimizer database and build a custom set of files for each of the Analyzers. That run is pretty fast, the management class analyzer usually runs in less than 2 minutes of CPU time. Then, there are the Analyzers themselves, but most of the reports run in a few minutes against a large sample of data.
