This depends on the cognitive status, negotiated care plan, and the general acuity of the resident. Typically, the family has a very significant role in developing and evolving the negotiated care plan. Any significant change in the patients needs, or change in the care, or of the living conditions provided, is immediately reported to the family (or to the power of attorney).
