How much computing power does the Singularity require?
That depends on whom you ask. While different people use different numbers to get a different number of cycles per second, the real answer is that no one is completely sure. It is the editor’s opinion, though, that the key for AI to reach the Singularity lies not in hardware power but in software power. Once we have the right software, the only amount of computing power of interest will be the point at which a hard take off becomes possible.
