How much are Shetland ponies?
We’ll start with the easy question first. An acre of land for one small pony is enough, if he gets to use the whole acre. You can pay as little as $150.00 to as much as thousands of dollars for a pony depending on what he can do and what you want to use him for. Asking how much a pony costs is like asking how much a red car costs. Ponies generally do not need grain or sweet feed. Should someone choose to give them some then they should be fed very small amounts. They don’t require a great deal of hay, especially if they have access to good pasture. Speaking of which ponies are very susceptible to founder (laminitis) and should not be allowed unlimited access on rich green pastures. They can be fed a flake of hay morning and evening. Three times a day is better, though. Square bales of Coastal Burmuda hay in my area (Central Georgia) are going for $7.00 per bale. One good sized bale would easily feed one pony for a week.
