I don’t necessarily think that specific characteristics increases pathegonicity (obviously it is only the mycolic acid in the cell membrane that is responsible for the acid-fast characteristics). The only way I know is possibly they are misdiagnosed due to their difficulty of being stained-though this is such a minute possibility it is almost a moot point.
