How might Continental Drift lead to a mass extinction, in terms of reproductive barriers???
Islands. When the earth was first forming the super continent of Pangaea was the total of all land mass. With continental drift Pangaea broke apart into various groups of land and islands. Some life forms may have roamed across Pangaea and when it broke up into islands members of that population would become isolated. With predators, who needed large ranges to hunt on, this could be a problem leaving a small population of these predators on an island and they would become extinct simply from the lack of breeding partners. Snakes were not on the Island of Hawaii and birds who had nests on the ground evolved. When airliners first brought snakes to Hawaii it was an ecological disaster and some birds are almost rendered extinct because of this. These animals had no defense and no knowledge of snakes and so are easy prey. At one time snakes may have existed on Hawaii; back when it was Pangaea, but the separation of it from Pangaea separated the snake population and it died out. This could e
