Non-UK European nationals are automatically considered for funding by the Cambridge Gates Trust (CGT) as part of the GRADSAF application form. From 2010 funding previously offered by the Cambridge European Trust is instead offered through the Cambridge Home and EU Scholarship Scheme (CHESS) maintenance bursaries. This is a University competition run at the Board of Graduate Studies, targeted at new applicants who have narrowly missed out on Research Council (RC) funding or have received partial RC funding. All AHRC unsuccessful/partially funded applicants are automatically considered the CHESS competition – no further action is required from applicants. See ‘Cambridge Home and EU Scholarship Scheme (CHESS)’. Students should also look for funding offered by their college, department or external sources.
