In 2007, The YMCA provided character building programs and services for over 30,000 young people from our local communities in HRM and in several communities in rural Nova Scotia. Over 14,000 are considered primary constituents as defined by involvement that has taken place over a period of time and multiple experiences. e.g. childcare participants. Over 15,000 are considered secondary constituents as defined by involvement to date over a shorter period of time with occasional visits. e.g. school visits to Camp Big Cove. Staff work with secondary constituents and encourage them to stay involved with The YMCA over time through building relationships, providing support structures, identifying new ways to stay involved such as volunteering. In many situations, an initial “short term contact” with The YMCA has transofrmed the life path of a young person so we value any and all participation.
