How many years of college to be a forensic scientist???
I have 6 years of college. Four getting a chemistry degree and 2 in a graduate program in Forensic Science. I know that a lot of schools are offering forensic scientist degrees nowadays. I cannot speak for those programs since they are fairly new. Most people in them end up in police work and evidence technicians. If you want to really be a forensic scientist in something like drug analysis, DNA or Trace Evidence you need a science background, preferably chemistry. My bosses like chemistry majors over everyone else or at least a couple of chemistry classes and biology. If you are going into firearms, fingerprint, then science is not as must as the other disciplines. My recommendation is to get a chemistry (or any science) degree then try to get in a lab as a lab technician. Get your foot in the door.
