How many years of college for doctorate psychology?

I am currently earning my PsyD, which is a doctorate in psychology. It does take 8 years of school, 4 for your bachelor degree and 4 for your doctorate (you are awarded your masters halfway through the doctoral program), however there are some added years after that! You have to spend one year at an accredited internship and one year at a postdoctoral internship before you can become licensed. Some states don’t require the postdoc (like Washington). You can also consider getting an MSW degree, which is a masters in social work. It would allow you to see clients. Or you can go for a PhD in psychology, which has more of a research focus. Do your research on what you want to do and how to get there!

It would take approximately eight years beyond high school completion. Four years for the bachelor’s degree and four years for the doctorate.
