How many years does an arrest show up on a background check?
The Fair Credit Reporting Act, the law that governs pre employment background checks, allows for a company to go back infinitely on conviction records, but only 7 years for arrest records. This law is to protect the applicant, but does not apply when attempting to get a job with the government. Some positions will disqualify for a pattern of similar arrests as well.
