How many wolves would the Park support? What about the rest of the peninsula?
The study estimates that about 56 wolves could survive within Park boundaries. This was based solely on existing data on deer and elk numbers within the Park. However, the study was unable to consider all of the factors that could affect such a population. To make accurate predictions about potential wolf numbers for the Olympic Peninsula as a whole, more complete information is needed about the numbers of deer, elk and other prey animals available and their dispersal in the habitat; the density and status (open or closed) of roads, and the presence of and interaction with other predators.
